Abilities In Action provides therapy to children with disabilities in an outpatient setting and via telehealth. We strive to enhance the lives of children with disabilities so they can play and learn with their peers.
Pediatric occupational therapy supports the development of sensory processing, fine motor and visual motor skills, and self-help abilities that enable children to participate successfully in their home, school, play, and community environments.
Occupational therapy helps children who experience challenges with sustained attention, transitioning between tasks or environments, fine motor coordination, handwriting, and independence with daily living skills such as dressing, feeding, and hygiene. Therapy also addresses executive functioning skills that support organization, planning, and emotional regulation.
Our therapists have specialized training in Sensory Integration Therapy, Neuro-Developmental Treatment, Integrated Listening Systems (iLs), Astronaut Training, Handwriting Without Tears, and Kinesiotaping. We help children build essential everyday skills related to fine motor development, sensory processing, self-care, handwriting, and executive functioning. Each child’s plan of care is individualized and designed to strengthen confidence, promote independence, and support success in daily routines and meaningful activities.
Speech therapy supports children who have difficulty using words to communicate their thoughts and needs (expressive language), understanding spoken or written language (receptive language), or producing clear speech sounds (articulation). When children struggle to understand or express themselves, frustration can occur and may lead to behaviors such as crying, tantrums, hitting, biting, or throwing objects.
For school-aged children, speech and language challenges may impact learning, including difficulty following classroom directions, developing reading skills, or interacting appropriately with peers. Early and effective support can improve communication, confidence, and participation across settings.
Our speech-language pathologists treat a wide range of pediatric speech and language disorders using evidence-based, child-friendly techniques. Therapy supports articulation, language development, and social communication. We also specialize in motor speech disorders, including childhood apraxia of speech. Each plan of care is individualized to help children communicate more effectively and successfully in their everyday environments.
Pediatric physical therapy promotes independence, increases participation, supports motor development and functional movement, improves strength and endurance, enhances learning opportunities, and eases the physical demands of daily caregiving.
Our pediatric physical therapists work with children from infancy through adolescence and partner closely with families to help each child reach their maximum potential for independent movement and active participation in home, school, and community environments. At Abilities in Action, our therapists use evidence-based practice by integrating current research with clinical expertise and thoughtful clinical reasoning to evaluate and treat each child.
We provide care for children from birth through adolescence with a wide range of diagnoses and movement challenges, including torticollis, developmental delay, gross motor delay, cerebral palsy, brachial plexus injury, and orthopedic concerns. Through play-based, developmentally appropriate therapy, we help children build strength, balance, flexibility, coordination, and essential motor skills that support confident movement and participation in everyday activities.
Our feeding specialists support infants through elementary-aged children who experience challenges with feeding, swallowing, oral-motor coordination, or limited food acceptance. Whether your child has a medical or developmental feeding difficulty or a very selective diet, we use a responsive, evidence-based feeding approach that prioritizes safety, comfort, and positive mealtime experiences.
Feeding difficulties can be complex and overwhelming for families. The relationship between nutrition, gastrointestinal health, sensory processing, and a child’s past experiences with food often means there is no quick or simple solution. That is why our care is individualized, thoughtful, and collaborative.
Through a comprehensive intake and evaluation process, our therapy supervisors determine whether your child’s needs are best addressed by a speech-language pathologist or an occupational therapist. From the initial evaluation through ongoing treatment, your child’s therapist develops a customized plan of care tailored to your child’s strengths, challenges, and your family’s goals.
We partner closely with parents and caregivers and collaborate with other professionals involved in your child’s care to help your child become a safe, efficient, and willing participant in mealtimes, while making meals less stressful and more enjoyable for the entire family.
Our therapists have specialized training in evidence-based feeding approaches, including SOS (Sequential Oral Sensory), AEIOU, and SOFFI.
