Physical Therapy — Speech Therapy — Occupational Therapy — Feeding Therapy For Infants & Children

Getting Started at Abilities in Action

Starting therapy should feel clear, supportive, and stress-free. At Abilities in Action, we make the process simple and flexible for families, caregivers, and referring providers.

We accept referrals from parents, pediatricians, early intervention specialists, teachers, and other healthcare professionals. Services are provided in our outpatient clinics and via telehealth, when appropriate.

Our Referral Process: Easy and Flexible

  • Prescriptions are welcome but not required to schedule
  • Parents may self-refer based on concerns at home, school, or from other providers
  • If a prescription is needed, we request it after the evaluation
  • Referrals and reports are shared with pediatricians to ensure continuity of care
  • Families always receive copies of evaluations and recommendations

How to Start Therapy

  1. Call one of our offices to get started
  2. Our trained front office staff will complete a brief intake call and gather basic information
  3. We will verify your insurance benefits and review your coverage and financial responsibility with you before scheduling
  4. In most cases, children are scheduled during the initial call, often with a recurring appointment time reserved

We are currently in-network with most Blue Cross Blue Shield plans.  Families with other insurance carriers may access services using out-of-network benefits.

Our friendly office staff handles:

  • Insurance submissions
  • Authorizations
  • Referrals and required paperwork

So you can focus on your child, not the logistics.

What to Expect: The Patient Journey

Once scheduled, families can expect a thoughtful, coordinated process:

  • A pre-evaluation phone call from your child’s therapist to review concerns, medical history, goals, and interests
  • Completion of a detailed online medical history form prior to the visit
  • A comprehensive evaluation (90–120 minutes) including:
    • Standardized testing
    • Clinical observation
    • Real-time feedback and recommendations
  • If therapy is recommended, sessions are confirmed promptly
  • Prescriptions are requested if needed
  • Evaluations and plans of care are shared with pediatricians and referring providers
  • Pediatricians receive updates at least annually, including re-evaluations

We prioritize clear communication and collaboration every step of the way!
